Java

Java, developed by Sun Microsystems, is an object-oriented programming language that was specifically designed to interact with web browsers in a safe and efficient manner. Small programs created in Java, not to be confused with JavaScript, are usually referred to as "Java applets" and usually perform small tasks such as numerical calculations. One of the main features of the Java language is the language's built-in security. Java applets must run under a controlled Java interpreter, which ensures that malicious code cannot cause havoc on the user's hard drive. Compatibility is also extremely high as all computers are now shipped with the Java interpreter installed.
