It's good to know how many visitors are checking out your website daily and how many pages they go to once they are there etc. An access log lists every request for individual files visitors request from a web site. These include HTML files and their imbedded graphic images and any other associated file that was requested to be transmitted. Access logs are often called the raw data and they can be analyzed and summarized by other programs. Basically an access log can be analyzed to tell you the number of visitors or unique first-time requests to a site, there the visitors come from, for example, visitors from .edu, .com, and .gov sites and how many requests for each individual page as well as usage patterns in terms of time of day, week or season.
